So, Unions are only about bargaining for their members, and not for fair work practices? That is, if two people have the same experience, the same ability, the same employment duration, and perform the same work, the person that is Union should get more than the other one that isn't? Yup, cuz he contracted, paid, and sweated for it. Interesting how I set up the questions, isn't it? Both had put the sweat into it. It's not about the job, doing the job, being "capable" to do the job. It's about the money. And, if a position is worth $X, shouldn't everyone working that position get paid the same (certifications, tenure, credentials being the same?)? Is a first-year Union teacher any better than a first-year non-Union teacher? Yes. The union member is either aware of the history of unions and therefore is supporting the organizations that created the modern work experience or he knows that in general union workers are better paid than non union members. So the union member is either better informed or simply smarter than the non union member. You may have a point. Being a union member seems to give you protection alright. I know in some European countries they do have wine with their lunch. Not here. They'd be calling for your balls. Pickled and in a jar. http://now.msn.com/chrysler-reinstates-workers-fired-for-drinking-smoking-weed-on-the-job Remember those Chrysler workers caught boozing it up and maybe smoking weed on the job? So, it seems, do a boatload of Twitter users who are screaming in protest after two of them have been reinstated. Footage was captured in in September 2010 of a group of auto employees drinking alcohol and smoking what appeared to be marijuana on their lunch break. With the auto bailout fresh in everyone's minds, as well as a visit to the plant from President Obama, Chrysler fired 13 workers and suspended two. But after a union-backed arbitration process, two are now back at work, prompting angry jokes and boycott threats online. Chrysler lost the arbitration case so the issue is with either chrysler's legal staff or with a bad arbitrator. I fail to see how the union is at fault here.
