doll -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 5:10:54 AM)

I have worked with handicapped children (ages 12-16) and I have also worked in daycare.  Got totally burned out on them....I am going to go to colege finally lol and get a degree in either paralegal or be a court reporter.
I am a submissive and I don't think my job has any correlation with my lifestyle.  I tend to have to be dominating in some aspect at work and I enjoy being able to go home and be myself.

I was just wondering what kind of work you all do?  And whether or not you're dominant, submissive or switch?
Do you think there's any correlation between the type of work one chooses to do and their dominant/submissive personality?
I've been in metal fab and metals production nearly my entire life. I'm a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker/M.E. which basically means if you can draw it I can make it out of metal and if you can't draw it, I can. I managed the toolroom in a large metal stamping firm for several years and have actually been in management of one form or another, for nearly three decades now. Now I am kicking back, in a sense, as a Technical Cost Estimator (same firm for over 23 years) for production metal stampings and dies, mostly for the automotive industry (tier one and two supplier). I've always worked for either a Vice President or President of the company as I don't deal well with direct supervision...I prefer to be given a goal and then leave me alone. Is there a correlation between that and me being a Dominant? Hmmm, probably not intentionally, just worked out that way.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 5:25:23 AM)

I sell stuff online.

I have been a sales manager(hehe, clean up if I have to), Factory worker, Customer Service Rep., I really  hate wearing a tie and the corporate sterile environment, and factory worker will kill you for little pay. So...

I don't think my past jobs have really represented my personality or dominant qualities, but rather my personality made me realize I could never be happy working for anyone else. So I stopped, and now sell online. So, I guess, I'm not a team player unless I get to ignore the other team members if I select to, but I tend to listen more now that I don't have to. If that makes sense.

LaTigresse -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 5:27:56 AM)

Oh good grief.....past jobs!?!?!?!
*My very first at age 11........(you asked for it) paper route
*lied about my age to get the next at a cafe as a waitress
*got pregnant at age 16 which cut that career short, I got married and moved to Wyoming.....quickly moved back
*waited tables at a truck stop 3rd shift for awhile.......GAWD that SUCKED!!
*ended up starting an antique and restoration business with first husband after floundering for several years
the business ended with the marriage......I still miss the business, I love being around beautiful things, especially things that have a past I can "see" and "feel"
Since then its always been jobs I could make the most money and still be a mom.......then just the best money to pay the bills
*waited tables at a nightclub I ended up managing until the owners split and closed it
*drove a tractor trailer hauling grain for awhile
*started working part time in the mail room for a national high end ladies clothing store......got married.......ended up managing new accounts at their corporate office in Cedar Rapids before they closed
* went to work for a company that sold industrial tools as a secretary and became manager of "special" accts
* got soooooooo sick of the office politics after 7 years I went into the health insurance business, only managed to handle that for 2 years......I HATE health insurance companies and what they do to their clients!!!
* after playing on the new farm for a couple months I got a job as customer service rep for a printing company and ended up running it after a few months.....still there....
Except for the antiques business none of the jobs, are or have been, work that mattered to me, just a way to pay the bills.

My creative stuff......photography, painting, working with horses, flowers, cooking.......those are the things that feed my soul

mistoferin -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 5:38:15 AM)

The first half of my working life I spent as a Counselor. Domestic violence and substance abuse. I ended up getting emotionally burned out and for a couple of years I just kind of bounced around trying to find out what I liked. I even did a year working construction but decided that your body never really gets used to that...lol. Since then I have concentrated myself primarily in Office Management for a large corporation and also a large accounting firm. I've also done some Marketing.

Right now I am off work in between surgeries. I am writing a cookbook so that takes up at least some of my time. Ultimately, I'd like to move up north to the woods and have my own little Mom and Pop place....a restaurant....or maybe a Hunting and boarding kennel.

edited to add that I also do catering and have been doing that for about 7 years now.

this slave's "job" is to make and keep Master happy...yes, there is a definite correlation there...[:)]

i am a nurse and have found many other slave/submissives on other sites and groups are also nurse. That has been a topic of discussion amongst M/many. Is there a correlation? For us it has been something we have pondered.

Im a nurse too...although I have to say that when Im at work im pretty darn "toppy". You sort of have to be in order to be good at what I do, which is critical care nursing.
...I work with other nurses who are kinky....one male switch, a female switch, a female domme and until she got outed and basically forced to transfer, another female domme...I have also heard that there is some sort of sub/nurse correlation but I dont see it where I work, at least not among those of us who are "out" to one another.

SCORPIOXXX -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 6:57:37 AM)

In reply to Aileen68 (and BTW Aileen, why is your profile not available, lol? What do you have to hide?)... I have had a variety of employment, from catering cook to office work etc... At the moment, after running a painting biz for a three years, I am going back to school teaching -- kind of a torture for a DOM, ha ha, since I have to keep my hands off the school girls (I am kinky, but sane). But I have no Calvinist Protestant work ethic whatsoever! I love writing and wordsmithing and wish I could sell my detective fiction and other stuff: nice work if you can get it, ha ha! As a side note: I am a lifelong DOM; I have had subs who were nurses, lawyers and others in powerful occupations -- but I also have had art makers and other subs in mundane jobs. Frankly, I couldn't care less what work one does... I was born and raised in Italy, where people are judged for who they are, not by their job (at least, back in the days...)

Currently I'm a regional administrative manager that does all together too much financial work, too.  I consider my job to be one of support.  I support the efforts of my project managers so that they can be more effective in their jobs and I directly support my Regional Manager.  I have an assortment of direct reports (which tends to wax and wane a bit depending on the number of jobs going on at the time) and am responsible for the smooth running administration and corporate compliance of satellite/ project offices within my region.  I do HR work, training, contracting and significant amounts of cost control/ invoicing/ budgets and projections/ database creation and maintenance.

I'm dominant but see this position as one of support.  I don't really think my kink has anything to do with my work, although my personality is a dominant one and it's a role I'm usually quite comfortable in.  I recognize that in some things I must take the lead and in some things I must follow.  I am a highly functioning member of a team.

See a need and fill it - and you will never be without work.

I'm also an artist that dreams of one day being able to wake up, make my coffee and step into my studio to go to 'work.'  I've been self employed off and on through out my life and generally prefer it to being on someone's payroll.

edited for typo.

Rumtiger -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 7:27:37 AM)

I'm a freelance consultant, my agency contacts me to tell companies if what they have or are doing sucks or not. I also work the same way in court cases.

subtill -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 8:27:54 AM)

my job is near social work, but my feeling is sub, my old dream ist to be a real slave under a women,where my heart is growing (i think its necessary to be in love,if i'm a real slave). But my dreams are so deep, that i will be every thing ,what ever SHE want. Her Will are my future, so i could be a human pet under her,if she decided that i am her real humanpet. if she decided i will be her servant,i'm only a dev servant,nothing more. How ever if im one day real under her feet,if i'm real Her slave,i think that only she decided if i Have to a job,or if i'm only her pet or what ever she said. But its a long way to be under Her,so i'm realist,so i ve to work ,to get the money for my life.So the job hasn't always something with my sub and dev feelings.
Sorry my english is bad,i come from Geramny,ihope every Lady has understand what i tied to say.

shivvy -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 9:23:31 AM)

i'm just a mum. i got 2 part time jobs. i work 6pm-9pm monday to friday stacking shelves in a shop, and i work 9am-1pm two days a week in a old peoples care home as a kitchen assistant (normally incharge of peeling potatoes and carrots and washing up[:)])

i'm a submissive, and i just like both my jobs, coz i feel like i'm doing something to help other people, even though i know most people just look down on me. but i don't care, coz it means i get to work round my daughter, and if she's off school coz she's poorly, then i can easily stay home to look after her[:D], which to me is the most imortant thing.

LadiesBladewing -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 9:38:09 AM)

I do several different kinds of work. I have a day job that pays the bills, and is -very- ordinary. In my not-workin'-for-The-Man hours, I am completing my doctorate in divinity (my 2nd academic doctorate), writing 2 non-fiction books with their concomitant workbooks, writing 2 fiction books (one of which is the second book in a series in which the first book is already published and the rest of the series -5 books- have been optioned), and doing pastoral care work as an ordained abbess in an alternative-spirituality enclave here, providing diverse levels of care for several alternative-lifestyle communities. I also lecture and do sermons through local alternative and open churches in the area, and at events, conventions, and symposiums concerning alternative lifestyle issues.

My mate has a day job as a biochemist doing basic medical research, has completed her certificate in homeopathy and is working on her studies for her boards as a doctor of homeopathy. She is also a priest in the same spiritual path that I am in, though her sect focuses more on healing than on pastoral care and teaching like mine.

Both of us have been doing these things since before we entered this lifestyle. Even while I was in service to the House, one of their requirements for me was that I maintain my pastoral responsibilities and progress. My work transitioned well between both worlds, and SR has never been anything but dominant in her mindset--and yet we share community work through the same general path.

I think that orientation may impact how one manages his or her work and its environment, but that it often does not impact the foundation work that one chooses.

Currently I'm finishing my PhD dissertation (turned in another chapter in June). But I also teach classes and I'll be participating in a research project as well this coming year.

Teaching is part of who I am, it often factors into my responses on this board and it always factors into how I train slaves and how I expect them to serve.
