akisha -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 1:21:34 PM)

I've been in supervisory or management jobs since i was in my late teens. Seems even when i start out at a lower end job i've been promoted to a higher position with in a short period of time.

Right now i'm the administrator  for the district office of a large international  rig company.  I don't like jobs where I'm the underling. I like to be boss or be high up in the pecking order of things. In my career i like to be in control as much as possible. I'm used to having staff under me and being the one relied on to get things done.

but my area of comfort in this lifestyle is as a submissive. I have no desire or inclination to Dominate.

PiggyPuta -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 1:26:19 PM)

i am a submissive and work as a Secretary/Office Manager for the federal government...have been with them for 23+ yrs.

proudsub -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 9:24:30 PM)

Retired tennis pro. My education was to be a PE teacher which I did for 2 years, but Hubby didn't want me working full time so I started my own tennis program, which was seasonal and part-time. The fact that i gave up my teaching career at His request correlates with being submissive. I also turned down an offer to coach at  a major university because he didn't want me committed to such a time consuming job. At the time, back in the late 60's i just thought i was being a good wife, didn't know i was submissive.

TheJackal -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 9:42:49 PM)

I work for a large electronics store.  I started off in sales, then moved to merchandising (which does a lot more than they led me to believe) and hopefully someday I'll move on to mobile electronics installation.

What a fascinating job.  I started going to school for this...wayyyyy back when, before I had to leave.

mstrj69 -> RE: Jobs (7/3/2006 10:43:48 PM)

Dominant,  I started out as an auditor and now am at the position where I own my own company which means I have to do everything from at the bottom to the top in case someone does not show up for work.  Major advantage is it is not an 8:30 to 5 job.  I can pretty much come in when I want, just so long as I do come into the office.

zumala -> RE: Jobs (7/4/2006 7:44:43 AM)

I'm not employed right now and am spending a lot of time worrying about what job to look for soon.  My problem is that I live in a city, but I'm completely oriented toward the outdoors.  My degree is in wildlife and fisheries science.  Every time I help someone out with biological field work, I have a blast.  But no one wants to hire me.  They like it when I volunteer my time, but... that won't pay the bills.  This might improve if/when pup gets the chance to relocate somewhere less urban, but I'll have to think so something I can do now that won't cause me to implode (I stress out HEAVILY when dealing with 'hurry up' customer service jobs).

Lack of self-confidence doesn't help me out in the 'hurry up' jobs either.  I like to do things just right, and they want you to do things at break-neck speed instead.  I'm incompatible with that.  I ask questions and seek for my boss to verify that 'yes, you did that right' before I'm comfortable.  Apparently that doesn't work very well.

Eh... so call me an unemployed frustrated biologist (yes, I draw, too).  I'm submissive.

I was just wondering what kind of work you all do?  And whether or not you're dominant, submissive or switch?
Do you think there's any correlation between the type of work one chooses to do and their dominant/submissive personality?

I am a self employed contractor and DJ .... I like the fact of making money for myself instead of someone else .. I am a Master . but I don't personally think your work place has any direct reflection on your "status". I have read many profiles of subs and slaves who hold very demanding and high powered jobs and want to release all that when they walk in the door at night after a hard days work of ordering people around. this obviously is just an opinion of mine

Wildfleurs -> RE: Jobs (7/10/2006 12:24:40 PM)

Most simply put I'm a policy analyst/manager at a non-profit as well as consleazant extroidenaire.

I'm not really sure what connection it has to my relationship with my owner except I do find that being in any sort of submissive headspace at work really does interfere with my ability to really focus and perform effectively.

subdelicious -> RE: Jobs (7/10/2006 2:21:26 PM)

i am a submissive and a elementary school teacher.  i do believe that our careers are connected to our Dominance or submissive selves.  Those of us in a "helping" profession enjoy pleasing others and helping them become the best they can be.

sweetchubster -> RE: Jobs (7/10/2006 3:27:41 PM)

i am secretary at an outpatient physical therapy department, and yes, i think being submissive has something to do with at least the way that i work.  i like to serve my therapists- making them coffee, bringing in goodies that i know will make them happy, decorating for holidays, prepping their schedules and charts for them, and just trying to make their lives easier and the workplace more enjoyable.
i must be doing something right-i was employee of the year last year....LOL

>>what kind of work you all do

Businessman, copywriter, entepreneur, trainer

>> whether or not you're dominant, submissive or switch?

I don't fit the typical dom label used here well at all ...
and have <1%  aspects of submission in me, so far as I know.

>> any correlation between the type of work one chooses to do and their dominant/submissive personality

My hair started to fall out
(male pattern baldness) when I was 15.
I got tested, and had seriously high testosterone
... thats what blasted the hair out so young.

Later, in my 40's,
when genetic tests became more generally available
it turns out I also have XYY chromosomes.
Estimates say about 1 per 1000 in most populations.
I suspect a vastly higher percentage here, as doms.

I believe that not only my jobs,
but almost every big decision in my life
has been determined by this curse/blessing
of needing to feed my leadership, authority, dominance.

ExSteelAgain -> RE: Jobs (7/10/2006 4:25:34 PM)

This is open to debate and usually starts one when I bring it up, but there is something to the generalization of those in identifiable job roles seeking the opposite in their BDSM life. I debated this once with a Dr. Spankenstein in an AOL chatroom…haha…well, that is the name he uses. He has some published things on the web. Maybe some of you know him. By the end of the debate, I had to admit, he was onto something.

What was interesting is that he used psychological tests and so on that told him 90% of submissives were in classical management type jobs while Dominants did not hold traditional management positions. The thing with Dominants, and I truly think it applies on this thread, is that most are intelligent, but in technical jobs where they don’t actually boss people. In my case, I am in a very scientific type position where my interaction is with a few underlings, but more with equals in other disciplines which requires being able to get along to move the main project. Believe what you want, but, if you really think about some of the “management” or “submissive” positions mentioned in the thread, you will see what I mean.

lilstarsoul -> RE: Jobs (7/10/2006 4:44:02 PM)

i'm a subbie, and i manage a Tim Hortons coffee shop.. one of thousands ...

Padriag -> RE: Jobs (7/10/2006 5:41:30 PM)

I own two businesses, one as a decorative painter, the other is a real estate development company (started that just this year, going well so far).  I'm dominant.

Any correlation between the work I do and being dominant?  In the case of the decorative painting, no... that has more to do with my creativity.  As for the real estate, sort of, it was a calculated move as part of a larger plan, a means to an end.
