Someone please poke me in the eye with a stick, I should know better than to even mention insurance with someone as risk adverse as the OP.

Carry on. Please pretend I didn't post OP.

What did I say wrong? All I asked was what company did you see insurance rates at $50 a month? So far the lowest I've found is $110.....! But if I could find it for $50, that would be a wonderful help. Please....

You seem like a sweet lady genuinely seeking answers. I'll say if you do decide to move forward with this, do it protectively. There is nothing wrong with spending a few weekends with this man, getting to know his friends, his habits. I'm sure it will put your mind at ease as well as far as making sure it's a good place for you and your mom. Your mom needs you or your sister to care for her, I don't see a major problem since your sister is local (in case of emergency for yourself as well). Seems like you had a slice of bad luck and you're trying to turn lemons to lemonade.
You like this guy, follow your heart, but baby step this process at least initially.
And I want the $50 insurance too please, haha! ;) Kidding, but awesome deal though.
Small decisions can have big effects and also sudden setbacks, don't get stuck in that wind tunnel again.

And don't tell me you can't afford insurance, Geiko is under $50 a month. That's $12 a week, what you must be paying for bus service.

Yes, my first quote for Geiko was around $50/mos. I added more coverage and it's now $74 for the identical coverage for which State Farm was charging me ~ $110 per month.

Ladies, remember, the OP doesn't have a driving record they can base a quote on as a safe driver. I doubt she would qualify for low insurance as a new driver.

ETA: not to mention rates vary state to state. In NJ, she would be lucky to get a policy for libility only for less than a grand a year.

Well....I hope this got saved right....but this is what I got from Geico....and this is the absolute bare bones minimum required by Delaware on a 2000 Toyota Corolla (If my mom were to let me have her car....) Damn....I was trying to save an image of the actual webpage but it won't post here right...but this is what I got:

Thank you for requesting your quote from GEICO!

Your monthly premium is:
$100.65
for a 6-month policy.
That is only $639.85 for 6 months.

And that is with the absolute bare-bones minimum that is required for Delaware. Straight Liability....no collision...no comprehensive. Heck I'm even kind of wondering if I "lied" a bit when it asked me if I was licensed prior to age 37. I mean....Yes...I *was*....but not this time around.

I've even take a defensive driving class....and got credit for that too! Go figure.

What are you all doing that is making it so low?

This is the e-mail I got this afternoon.....

I do understand what you are saying, and it is ok to for you to feel that you have a responsibility to take care of her, and no it is not through guilt, you knew nothing about the money and still were having this problem.

As to your cousin, she is quite correct, yes you will still age and still not have it, it is the same thing I have told you, this decision is one you need no matter what happens between us.

As to where you may need to be to attend school, it maybe that you need to do it there, or you may need to bring your mother with you.

You have made the important part of it in deciding that you have to go back to school.

Now it is just finding a way to do it.

As to me, I travel a lot for work, I have told you that I can find the time to go there, it may not be exactly what I want, but some times you just have to deal with it. From a different aspect, that you have not thought of, think of what it would be like for you in Florida while I am off in Texas for 3 months. Could be that it is better for you to stay in there at least for awhile, this school thing is only for 24 months at most. By then the situation beteewn us, and for your mother will be clear.
