just started another thread under off topic discussion titled yay me.

Found out at the doctors today that i have lost just over half my body weight in 3 years! Currently still over 320 but still working on it!! Sorry for the fast reply but Daddy is taking me out to karaoke which is O/our favorite date night and i still have to get my hair under control....

Let me just say that even if its only 30 pounds find an Overeaters Anonymous group near you... They are the most amazing supportive people you will ever meet and the 12 steps really do apply to any addiction because mine is food. Food doesnt talk back it comforts me.. For a while. Then i feel bad for eating that entire tub of ice cream and eat a small pizza... Vicious cycle and it does exist!!!

Damn that's a hell of a loss. Keep it up.

i wish i had a workout partner!

You can always make it up. Just don't make a habit of it or you won't see the results you want.

I got out and walked around the block in the rain today. It didn't really get my heart rate going, but it was at least some exercise. I need to start working on a more balanced date that is better than what a teenager on holiday without any adults would eat.

Some exercise is better than none. It all adds up.

I tried the "Fast & Furious" dvd last night but had to give up shortly into the routine.  Just too damn hard on my knee [&o]
I left early for the kickball game & walked around the field, did a short run so I'll consider yesterday my "rest" day instead of Sat. & will workout on Sat.
I'm starting my training for the MCM 10k so will be back on the road on Sundays![:D]

**Eta, if someone would like me to mail the dvd for your workout email your address to me on my MCLady account.  I've met several CM's so I have references that I don't collect addresses for stalking purposes**

Marisol -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (7/29/2011 9:28:10 PM)

I am very overweight. I am definitely trying to lose weight. My mother had gestational diabetes when pregnant with me, and my father has diabetes so I have a VERY high risk of it, even more so than my siblings. I'm very worried I will get diabetes, heart disease and die early.

One of the problem I have with nutrition is my family is very poor. Lots of carbs and processed food is cheap. I can't afford to buy fresh vegetables and nice meats and fish sometimes. Ramen noodles aren't very good for me at all.

Back when we were doing better with money I started a very low carb diet and I started to lose weight. I felt better. My acne went away and I felt belt, my cycle regulated, I gained muscle, basically I was doing great.

Then we hit a poor period and I couldn't afford to eat like this any more, weight came back.

I try to exercise at home since I can't afford the gym, and walk my dog a lot. But even with a lot of exercise I can't seem to lose because we basically live off cheap garbage for food.

Anyone have any ideas on how to eat healthy on a very small budget?

If they have farmer's markets I suggest going to those or see if they have pick your own farms nearby. Shop the sales and do some couponing if you can. Get to know the meat department where you shop, ask them when they get their meat in and when they process(if they do in house) usually you can take a look at what is close to expiring and they will mark it down and then you can freeze it.

I will see what other ideas I can find when I'm a little more coherent.

barelynangel -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (7/30/2011 7:43:30 AM)

A lot of people have the same issue with low carb, unfortunately because of the nature of the plan, sometimes it is hard when cheaper the better -- your health cannot afford cheaper.  Just think of it this way -- call your doctor and ask him if you had to go on diabetic meds, how much will it costs, then call your insurance company and ask the same thing.

THEN start investing that amount every month into your food and fitness budget because if you don't do it now, you will HAVE to do it in the future and still need to work on losing the weight which will cost you more still.  You may also have to go in for blood tests and doctors apt every three months or so -- so take the costs of that and invest it into you and your families food budget now.  The way a lot of people look at it, that money will have to be sacrificed from someplace IF you had to go on meds and doc appts and labs, find out where you would take it from in the future if your circumstances remain the same, and apply it to your food and fitness budget now.  Once you have lost the weight and you do low carb correctly, eventually your budget will get easier because you do actually incorporate foods you sorta leave out now back in, so you aren't just eating protein and veggies.  If that makes sense.

My biggest suggestion is look for sales.  Feed your family the same thing you are eating  -- low carb is simple at it's most basic -- protein and veggies.    Veggies are carbs so feeding your family protein and veggies is healthy.  You can always add low sugar fruit to their day.

So frozen veggies many times you will find sales -- look for these.

EGGS, yes you may think you will get sick of them but there is so much you can do and make with eggs, quiches, omlets, muffin type things etc.  They are one of the cheapest proteins out there.

As keri suggested get to know your meats guy.  Also, if you know someone who shops at like costco or sams or such, sometimes they have really good deals on frozen chicken breasts and i hear plain wings also.

heck lol you can find a lot of ideas by putting "Low carb on a budget"  in a search engine.  Find some good coupon sites.  Talk to friends and family and say if you come across coupons for A, B, and c, send them my way please.  Ask them to tell you about sales they come across etc.  Farmers market is awesome right now, i got this zuchini that was as big as my forearm and the same for a eggplant and a bag of beans for like 5 bucks.  They lasted me over a week.

I know it's hard but if it works for you, make it work for you.

After much swearing and name calling (directed towards the treadmill) my husband got the treadmill together. I was able to use it for the first time today WOOT! I was able to do 4 miles on the treadmill and then we took the dogs for their usual two mile jaunt. I feel good. I won't step up my workouts until I start feeling better, but it felt good to be able to get a small workout in. I was energized all day and my husband was amazed at all the organizing I was able to get done.

Pretty good for the first use. He might want to tighten the screws and bolts after a few uses.

I took the dog out Sat for 4.5 miles, Sun morning & evening for a total of 7.5-8 miles.
Tonight it's Step Aerobics.  Since there are no evening classes that I enjoy on Tues/Thurs's I'll dedicate those nights for MCM 10k training by doing a few miles each night.

For my protein I like to by 4% fat ground beef (in premade burgers) but another way for low fat inexpensive meat is to buy the least expensive ground beef, then fry it to cook it, drain the fat and then boil the rest of the fat out of it & let drain.
Then you can measure it out and freeze it, use it in sauces, casseroles, soups, etc..

impishlilhellcat -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (8/1/2011 9:55:14 AM)

I use a lot of turkey burger or chicken sausages for my low fat options.. These can be kind of expensive, but because my husband is so iffy about expiration dates I do know that walmart will mark these meats down a day or two before the sell by date.

I really like having the treadmill in the house. Even though I was exhausted the treadmill sitting in the middle of the room was a reminder that while we took the dogs on a brisk walk tonight I still needed to do more. I like a lot of different shows that the husband doesn't like so I tivo and it's really not hard to spend an hour on the treadmill. Not back up to running yet, but I do the weight loss intervals.

KeriB -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (8/1/2011 8:42:56 PM)

What kind of treadmill is it impy? I'm trying to decide if I want to get one. It would make something easier.

Last night was Step Aerobics, good workout. Very fast paced but the last 15 minutes are always the hardest routines! [>:]

I've decided to go to the gym classes on M, W & F's and on Tues, Thurs Sat & Sun's I'll be training for the 10k in Oct.  Thankfully I enjoy walking/running in the hot weather!
