ShaharThorne -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/12/2012 9:58:59 AM)

I am down to 305 from 320 right now.  I just up my proteins and watch my carbs.

When it is not cold, raining or freezing, I try walking 15 minutes a day.  Afterwards, that clump of nerves start acting up and I have to take a pain killer.

I am thinking of gastric bypass surgery but the cost ($10,000+) has me in a spin.  Medicare refuses to pay for it but there are cases where they have done it.

SaharThorne, Seems to me that if you can control your weight with diet, a bypass can be avoided.

ResidentSadist, CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss!  I'm sure that makes it easier for hope to find...."IT"

She is quite happy... traded in her microscope for a lightweight magnifying glass.

Good to hear but I know you're HOT regardless of any belly that you might have!

I bought an XBox 360 Kinnect & an exercise "game" on Amazon.  It's due to be delivered today so I can't wait to use it but knowing my limitations w/modern technology I'm sure the workout will be just in trying to figure out how to connect it correctly....throwing it against the wall is a good workout, right?????

Better rub da' Buddha belly for luck while you can.  I have gone through 2 sets (sizes) of clothing so far and the belly is shrinking fast.

Somehow I just don't think the energy spent smashing your workout equipment counts as exercise.  Good luck with hooking it up.

I just wanna say this --

Fitness, being fit, getting fit, losing weight etc is so fucking much easier when you have someone else directing it and all you do is protest and whine and pout but in the end you do it anyway cause well ya sorta gotta or else! lol

And before someone says personal trainer -- to which i will SCREAM if i hear it lol -- they just don't fit the bill.

Okay done with my whine for the day.

ResidentSadist -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/14/2012 12:41:18 PM)

^ personal trainer -- personal trainer -- personal trainer -- personal trainer -- personal trainer -- personal trainer -- personal trainer

... sorry, the thought of you screaming was irresistible.

barelynangel -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/14/2012 1:55:21 PM)

laughs, okay that just seems so wrong on so many levels.  Ya sadist!

Down to 302 today...

As a general addition to this thread.  And another
link between diet, health and disease.

I just saw this:  Female Dr. went from 7 years of MS,
being even unable to sit in a normal chair, all conventional
drugs and treatments failed.  After 4 months of changing her
diet she was walking throughout the hospital.

See for yourself a 15:00 TED talk.

When i first started listening to this, i thought it might be the paleo type plan.  I have been low carb for a very long time, and this year i am transitioning over to paleo and researching and learning to understanding it.  My biggest issue is i can't eat actual  fish - i keep wanting to try mahi mahi but whenever i am out, i can't see spending the money for it when i may not be able to eat it -- ever since i was a kid, i just can't swallow fish and organ meat also going to be an obstacle.

But i enjoy seaweed lol

She does make sense regarding costs -- you pay it in the food that will help you be and remain healthy -- or you pay it in drugs, doctors visits, hospital stays, surgeries etc eventually.

People don't get how bad processed food is -- however, i am living proof that lol convenience and addition is very hard to overcome.

It's a choice as she said, people have to make the choice and decide what is their priority, not only in the present but for the future.

Angel,

I just shared this here because I just ran across it.  However
for the last few months my friends and I have been altering
our diets with very positive results.  Better numbers in BP
better blood tests, reductions in medications, one person
is a triathlete who is doing more with a lower heart rate.

Weight loss just happens when you concentrate on eating healthy
with a focus on getting micronutrients.  If you have not seen it
yet I recommend the movie Forks Over Knives

"The feature film Forks Over Knives examines the profound
claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that
afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting
animal-based and processed foods." (they don't recommend
eating fish)

The doctor in that movie has a 20 year record of reversing
heart disease, even in people "too sick to help".  And his
studies are peer reviewed.

Great hearing you and your friends are making the changes you feel will help you be healthier and reach your goals.

To me, SAD -- Standard American Diet sucks completely.  People say well just eat what you want in moderation -- while sure that does work to keep your weight down, it's not exactly making you healthy as all the crap that's in food today.  However, i do realize as i struggle with it the addiction to processed food i have as well as the addiction to the CONVENIENCE of processed food lol.  It's hard to overcome.

I think the concept of what is in food needs to become the focus rather than how much of it is eaten.

Thanks for the link, i am always interested in information and will check it out.

Angel,  I think you are correct about this.  I have learned it takes about 4000
calories to fill your stomach with junk food.  You will fill it with 3-400 calories
of micronutrient rich food.  In fact, I believe if it is not micronutrient rich it is not food.
It may be edible but it is not healthy.

Here is another great site for healthy living information.  It is the blog
of a medical librarian.  Happy Healthy Long Life  She updates on a regular
basis and she gives references.

You have mail.

ShaharThorne -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/16/2012 7:09:28 PM)

Went to the nerve doctor today and I am weighing 298.  The nurse had to stop me from dancing.

The doctor did tests on my arms from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (bad case in the left arm).  He does not know what I am doing but the CTS is virtually gone.  I get spasms around my left thumb but I got crafter gloves for when that happens.

I am looking into Anytime Fitness for strength training.  I am about to hop on my exercise bike for a 15 mike workout.  I want a mountain bike for biking around when it is not raining or cold.

Running Mom into the doctor in the morning.  She is still getting some dizziness, so my brother had to drive me to Tyler today.  Damn brat kept making weird noises, trying to stab me with a toothpick.  I had enough needles from the doctor's office showing that I can move my arms.

Shar, did you have the gastric bypass surgery or are you losing weight naturally?

ShaharThorne -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/17/2012 12:44:41 PM)

I am losing weight naturally.  Made no resolutions this year so something is going right...LOL!

VirginPotty -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/17/2012 1:14:19 PM)

Nice job!

Was stagnant in my weightloss from my accident for years, the last 15 lbs that wouldnt go. Cut most processed, prepared & fast foods... and am at pre-accident modeling weight again. I cook everything from scratch. Works wonders.

VirginPotty -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/18/2012 7:03:24 AM)

Monday night I did 3 classes--Step & Sculpt, Pilates & Core Conditioning.
Tonight I'll be doing--3-2-1, Step Aerobics & Core Conditioning.

I do believe the weight is shifting to my chest since my pants are loose but my shirts are getting tight![>:]

ShaharThorne -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/22/2012 6:15:26 PM)

Its muscle building up in your chest.  That is why your shirts are tight.

Today we celebrate little H's birthday with cake and ice cream.  I passed on it since I am trying to cut sweets out of my diet (and its working).

Working on the grocery list and running to Sams in the morning.  My brother needs the 25 pounds of sugar, we need eggs and other stuff after seeing the balance doctor.
