VirginPotty -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/23/2012 11:49:26 AM)

I haven't been to the gym since Wed of last week due to work obligations on Friday.
Yesterday I power walked for 2 miles and will be back in the gym tonight for Step/Sculpt class.
I ordered a couple of Jillian Michaels dvd's today (Abs/Strength Training) w/the hope that I can make myself workout at home.  My track record w/workout tapes sucks but they were less than $10 each so I went ahead & bought them.  We shall see!

Do you keep track of everything you eat? Calories nutrients?

VirginPotty -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/23/2012 1:21:53 PM)

I looked at potty then looked down and saw some definition. Mmmm I don't need to spend any money on tapes.

I've been around. Do you use a watch ekg to track your calories burned while you exercise? Great job on getting more definition.

I dunno to whom I'm supposed to reply to get started.....

~shows up~

I have not as of yet started any routine nor diet/food plan but damned if I'm not gonna try.

It's been too long since I've loved my body like a Temple to the Earth and Sky as opposed a Temple to Ease and Comfort.

I wanna change.

I hope that showing up here, and my own decision to care for myself, gets me started.

Take care - I'm going to try to. [:)]

I've been using the spark people food tracker, which I love because it has such a huge database. Someone on fetlife recommended myfitnesspal because it gives you points back for more exercise.

I haven't weighed myself in a while, but I've stayed nicely between 1200-1500 calories, so I'm hoping to have some good results nnext time I meet a scale.

Good for you. This is the place for it. What do you want to get out of all of this?

I use the myfitnesspal Android app. It's nice. It let's you track calories and nutrients. You can set your daily calorie goal and track it daily. And it now keeps track or your average for the week. It can calculate your calories burned for cardio. But not for any weight lifting.

It's geared for women. If you go by the nutrient totals they give you they favor higher carbs and much less protein. Which may suit women better. Either way its handy.

Perhaps the past is not the best place to train the eye but there was a time when I was a vegetarian and baked my own breads and cooked all my own meals. I don't necessarily need to become a vegetarian again (though to begin with it may make containing/cutting down on the cravings easier) but I used to mmmmmnnnnn over a bowl of warm brown rice and hot veggies with a little Bragg's or soy sauce. I miss loving good food that is good for me. I miss the feel of no phlegm and no sloth from extra poundage. I miss caring for myself as if it is something important to do in life. Which it is if one wishes to maintain having one.... 8)

1) A lot more self love
2) A lot more veggies
3) A lot more whole grains
4) A lot more home cooked meals
5) A lot more 1600's movement - walking to the store, walking to my friend's house, moving my body through my day, and using less "convenient" methods (leaving the car in the driveway more often) of transport.

Thanks for asking, blacksword404. It's forced me to really think this through and a general guideline to follow. :)

Go go go!

dovie -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/27/2012 7:48:25 AM)

Joining here as I stepped on the scale yesterday and it screamed 294 lbs, same as Shahar. So...will spend some of the weekend catching up on some of the threads, suggestions, etc., and scoping out some great walking shoes. Any suggestions on walking shoes?

dovie

ShaharThorne -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (1/27/2012 7:55:09 AM)

I recommend New Balance crosstrainers.  I have to wait until the 2nd to see if I can find any.

Stepped on the scales this morning and got 292.  Losing 3 pounds a week and it is mainly diet.  Cut out seconds, switching to whole grain and the exercise bike gets a workout for 15 minutes a day.  Been too cold and wet for walking...LOL!

New Balance does make great walking shoes. I have a couple of pairs myself and they're wonderful.

Since I cut out salt, and pop I have dropped 40 #. Dosent look much like it to me but friends I havent seen in a while notice it. I got into eating pumpkin seeds to help curb my appietite. I was drinking lots of tea but I found that it lowered my blood sugar to low. I still drink it but have cut back . Im not into the gym thing but I walk several miles every day. The cold weather has a lot to do with dropping the weight.
